ArcScan
Private discovery + change tracking · Public product
A local-first desktop network inventory that discovers devices, remembers what belongs to each site, and explains what changed between comparable scans.
Inside the product
How it works
Select an adapter and scan range. ArcScan discovers devices without changing them.
Save the results to a named network inventory, matched by device identity.
Compare a later scan with a compatible baseline; partial scans keep missing-device status uncertain.
Review and acknowledge changes, export evidence, or explicitly send inventory to ArcAtlas.
What it solves
A point-in-time scan is useful for a few minutes. The harder product problem is identity over time: deciding whether a device moved, disappeared, changed services, or is simply outside the scope of the latest scan without turning uncertainty into a false alert.
Capabilities
- Read-only network discovery with ARP-assisted quiet-device detection
- Per-network inventory matched by device identity instead of IP alone
- Durable new, missing, address, hostname, manufacturer, and service-change records
- Device actions for web, SMB, SSH, RDP, Wake-on-LAN, export, and an explicit ArcAtlas handoff
Where it gets hard
- A stopped or partial scan must never manufacture a missing-device alert
- DHCP changes should move a known device instead of duplicating it
- Presence, missing, and unknown are different facts and must stay different
- Everything stays local unless an operator explicitly sends one inventory onward
In the loop
The discovery and inventory engine is deliberately deterministic. AI is not required to decide whether a device exists or whether a scan is comparable.
The technician names, trusts, ignores, acknowledges, exports, or hands off findings after seeing the evidence ArcScan collected.
